The Event
The Capital City Cyclists are making changes to the 2008 TOSRV routes and destination. In conjunction with Atomic Racing and the Big Bend Economic Council, TOSRV will be one of many cycling events in a new regional cycling festival called the Big Bend Cycling Festival.
The 2008 TOSRV Date is April 5-6th. There will be both standard and metric century options. Rather than go to Albany, new routes will meander throughout the Big Bend region. On Day 1 we will begin in the downtown Tallahassee area. The century route will be a southern Big Bend loop that returns back to the starting point. Day 2 will begin and finish in nearby Quincy. Shorter route options for both days are available.
The 2-day, 200-mile routes should include historic towns and canopy roads, San Marcos de Apalache Historic State Park, Natural Bridge State Park, St Mark's rails to trails, the Jim Woodruff Dam, and Torreya State Park.
Route Maps
Maps and cue sheets are available for standard and metric routes for both days.

Day Two Metric Century

| Food Stop #3 of TOSRV Day One is the actual location of the 1865 battle. You can see where the St Marks River flows underground, forming a natural bridge. |
 |
On March 6, 1865, a small group of Confederate troops and volunteers, mostly composed of students from what would later become Florida State University, prevented Union troops from crossing the St Marks River at that point where the river goes under ground for a few yards, before resurfacing. This "Natural Bridge" was an ideal crossing point for the Union soldiers, but the action from the students prevented the Union from crossing and capturing the Florida capital. |
The Big Bend Cycling Festival
The highlight of the festival weekend will take place downtown Tallahassee on Saturday. Once you finish the first day of the century/metric ride, you can just walk a few blocks and participate in the bike festival. Cycling booths, vendors, and entertaining competitions will be held throughout downtown at various times of the day. The main attraction will be the criterium races hosted by Atomic Racing for all to see. This very exciting, spectator friendly race will have the state's top professional racers. They will be racing at night, right under the lights, and will be battling for one of the state's top pro purses of the year. Other planned cycling activities for the first annual Big Bend Cycling Festival include a Kid Zone, Kids' Bike Rodeo, and Bike Swap. For more information see please visit our web site at www.BigBendCyclingFestival.org.
 |
After Day One of the TOSRV century, relax downtown and watch the state's fastest professional cyclists battle for large pro purses. The crit race will be a three-block downtown course, just a few blocks from where TOSRV begins and ends. The races will be going on all evening, right under the downtown lights. There are bars and restaurants with outdoor seating along the course. Photo by Larry Novey |
Please visit this site later for more details on other cycling competitions being held. Other examples of competitions should include performances by BMXers, unicyclists, and a bike rodeo.
